Moveable Type and Wordpress are both touting new “social networking” features for future releases. The question is: does anyone care? Do people really want to start their own social networking sites around their blog? From what I can tell, these are attempts to add features that will generate media buzz, not features that will get users excited about the product. I could certainly be wrong, though. What do you think? Visit site »

A really nice interview with Matt that hits on many different topics, including upcoming features in WordPress, PHP4 vs. PHP5, and PHP vs. other web development languages. Most relevant to the readers of this blog: at the end, Matt says: “(If I were building WordPress from scratch, starting today), the only other language (besides PHP) I would consider using is Python. I really like Python.” Overall, really good little interview. Visit site »

Matt Mullenweg (whom I’ve never met and is probably a perfectly nice guy) doesn’t really have much ground to stand on in complaining about PHP4 support getting killed off, if you ask me. PHP5 has been out for three years. Time to move on — either to the latest and greatest PHP or a different platform all together. Get over it. Visit site »

The fact that a plug-in is apparently necessary to strip CSS out of your WordPress templates is enough to make me never, ever go near that blogging platform. Why, in God’s good name, couldn’t I just remove the link elements that reference the stylesheets?

I had no idea logic was that closely tied to presentation in Wordpress. Wow, that’s disgusting. Visit site »

This is linked for all those people who told me that WordPress was capable of handling sites that weren’t blogs. If this is what you mean by “handling,” then I laugh in your general direction. Blogging apps are for blogs. Want a shopping cart? Get a shopping cart app. Using a blogging app for a shopping cart can only be described one way: ugly hack. Thanks for the link, Tim! Visit site »
