I like that you bothered responding to CSS Beauty commenters. They’re basically the dumbest, rudest, most talentless people in the world. They bitch and moan about the most ridiculous things and they’re all a waste of time.
I never visit that site, just noticed it was sending me a lot of traffic so I stopped by. Had I realized they were as trollish as you say, I probably wouldn’t have bothered commenting. Oh well.
Good for you, Jeff. I agree with Ratherfancy… Once people notice sites are looking like crap in IE6 (which they do natively) they will move to better browsers.
I think people put WAY too much emphasis on how all of our PERSONAL sites look and function. I use tons of transparency on my site (both in the css and w/ pngs), and it takes javascript to get it to work in IE 6. But even then, all the links on the left side aren’t clickable. Oh well, no big loss for me.
If it were client work and it didn’t look good for IE 6, then fine, that’s a valid argument. But otherwise, it’s not worth the hassle (both in code and in dealing with comments).
Wow, only 1%! 11% of visitors on my blog are using IE6. My Safari and IE numbers are pretty much the reverse of yours - I get a lot of Google traffic from PC gamers.
Anyway, I commend you for ignoring those crap browsers for your personal site. When I roll out my redesign, I’m stripping images out entirely for IE6 since it’s all going to be based on transparent PNGs and I can’t be bothered with bullshit work- arounds.
Sorry about the comments on CSS Beauty. With them is a 50/50 sometimes they have some constructive comments, and sometimes they don’t. That’s the way of the internets…
Regarding IE6, for that 1% I wouldn’t bother either.
Well IE7 isn’t that bad. Though I’m not saying it’s the best either.
I wonder how this has pushed Microsoft to do IE8. I’m thinking IE8 might have some nifty new features that we’re finally waiting for.

It’s the only way to get people to start using more up-to-date browser IMO.002 // garrettmurray // 02.21.2008 // 8:01 AM
