I’ve followed Digg from its beginnings, and have always liked the concept. It’s just always seemed like the user base was incredibly immature. Every time I go to the site, one or two of the top stories offer a GIF with a “surprise” or a “sexy” optical illusion. I guess this is appealing to 15-year-old males. But it’s not appealing to me, and I can’t imagine that it wouldn’t make most self-respecting women balk at the sexual objectification which abounds.
Granted, I’m biased, being a political conservative. It’s pretty obvious to anyone that being a conservative on Digg is the exception. I, for one, even considering the fact that I’m not a big Bush fan, can’t imagine liberal who actually use their minds liking a whole lot of the content either. Some of it is reasonably thought out. But most of what I’ve seen (obviously, especially in the comments) doesn’t really seem to show concern for argument. Just insult. So much for tolerance and open-mindedness.
Dan: All of that may be true (I wouldn’t argue with it), but none of it takes away from the people at Digg who have come up with a tremendous idea and executed it in a remarkable way. I happen to be good friends with several Digg employees andhave hung out with Kevin Rose (Digg’s founder) on a few occasions, and he comes off as a great guy, to me. I just wanted to congratulate them (if these acquisition rumors are indeed true), that’s all.

Oh, yeah, they deserve it. I’m jealous, anyway. ;)
