Actually (on Windows anyway) Reader 8 is light years ahead of any of its predecessors - at least on start-up speed and rendering.
And I say this having disabled all the fun Adobe start-up items that get thrown into my computer. From a cold start, Reader 8 is awesome compared to Reader 6.
