Good read, as it’s something I believe should come full force into the web design world. The biggest struggle, in my mind, is finding a way to moderate certification, especially for those of us who are self-taught. I deem it unnecessary to finish my degree, as it stands, because I have been able to learn much more on my own then I was ever able to learn in school. I do, however, see the need for a degree (solely based on the society we live in) in job placement. So how do we measure the work of someone without a degree against a fresh college graduate in this industry? What’s the rule stick? This is why moderating certification is a concern of mine. Would there be a test?
I agree with your comment that those who are self-taught are oftentimes more passionate about their field than those who have gotten the degree.
