Andy Budd recently published a piece entitled An Objective Look at Table Based vs. CSS Based Design which plays Devil’s advocate to the typical beliefs of those of us in the web standards blogsphere. It’s very insightful, and points out many reasons why, sometimes, tables are the best choice. Most of these reasons are centered around learning curves, compatibility, and client- buy-in. It’s a great read, and the associated comments are worthwhile, too.
As I said in the comments over at Andy’s site, my take is simple: use the best tool for the job. Whether we’re arguing Mac vs. PC, Illustrator vs. Fireworks, Trebuchet vs. Verdana, #333 vs. #000, or tables vs CSS-layout, the answer is always the same: use what works best for the job.
I really is that simple. Seriously.
